Three Tips for Reducing Headaches

reno-chiropractor-lynelle-mcsweeneyIf you find yourself looking for reasons for your headaches – blaming the weather, a wild night out, too little sleep, or a poor diet – you’re probably dealing with them pretty regularly. The truth is, there are a lot of reasons you may be experiencing headache pain. But no matter what’s causing them, we’re betting you just want them to go away. Here are three tips for reducing headaches.

Drink Your Water

Tension and migraine headaches have more than head pain in common. They’re also commonly caused by dehydration. If your head is starting to pound, start with a big glass of water. It can start helping in less than half an hour. Hydrating throughout the day is important too, especially here in northern Nevada. Bringing a reusable water bottle with you and sipping throughout the day can help keep headaches at bay, so if it’s not a habit of yours already, start it now!

Get More Sleep

Interestingly, poor and limited sleep has been linked to an increase in both the severity and frequency of headaches and migraines in particular. It’s important to get enough sleep and develop a solid sleep routine as well.

Consider an Adjustment

If you’re sleeping well and drinking plenty of water but still struggling with headaches, the issue could be muscle spasms in your neck and shoulders. Poor posture is also a common culprit, as is our screen-heavy society. Staring at a screen all day can be problematic, and it puts us in a terrible position – hunched over and peering down. Evening headaches after a day of this makes a lot of sense. Fortunately, Dr. Lynelle Mcsweeney here in Reno can help. Chiropractic adjustments can help decrease tension in the neck and shoulders while also increasing range of mobility. Plus, Dr. McSweeney can show you exercises to improve your posture. Stop with the over-the-counter medications, and give chiropractic a try. Schedule your visit today.
