From the Study

The study at Tufts University in Boston was small, with data from just 156 people, but it spanned an impressive thirty years. Participants were identified as long term, multiple, daily supplement users, defined as those who took at least two supplements a day. Most commonly, these supplements included a multivitamin/mineral, calcium, vitamin C, Omega 3 and a mix of herbal products.

“Our findings suggest that dietary supplement use, particularly use of multiple daily supplements, may provide cardiometabolic benefit, consistent with the earlier observations in the LTMDS cohort,” wrote the researchers. This is a reference to the 2007-2010 National Health and Examination Survey, which found participants taking multiple dietary supplements had improved cardiometabolic health profiles than the general population.

It’s important to note that this is an observational study, not a randomized controlled trial, but it’s still a good source of data, especially when paired with additional and substantial evidence regarding the benefits of supplementation.
