IS CHIROPRACTIC CARE SAFE DURING PREGNANCY?

We’ve written before about the benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy. Still, anyone who has ever been pregnant knows – the first question on a woman’s mind is always whether or not something is safe during pregnancy. Well, good news! Chiropractic care is most certainly safe during pregnancy, and that’s according to the American Pregnancy Association.

Safety & Benefits of Chiropractic During Pregnancy

Chiropractic relates to spine and joint care, without the use of drugs or surgery. Instead, a chiropractor uses manipulation to restore misalignments, reducing spinal nerve stress and promoting health throughout the body

So what does that mean during pregnancy?

According to the American Pregnancy Association, “There are no known contraindications to chiropractic care during pregnancy. All chiropractors are trained to work with women who are pregnant. Investing in the fertility and pregnancy wellness of women who are pregnant or trying to conceive is a routine care for most chiropractors.”

True story! Dr. Lynelle McSweeney, a Reno chiropractor, is a mother of three herself and she particularly enjoys treating pregnant women to help them feel as comfortable as possible.

A woman’s body goes through so much in those ten months of pregnancy. All those physical changes to your body can mean a misaligned spine and joints, leading to nagging back, hip and pelvic pain. These can include:

  • Protruding abdomen
  • Postural changes
  • Pelvic changes

Regular adjustments can address the pain associated with these changes. But that’s not all. A misaligned pelvis can limit available space for your growing baby, a restriction known as intrauterine constraint. It can also unnecessarily complicate delivery by making it hard for your baby to move into the best position. Regular adjustments can help avoid these complications.

Chiropractic are during pregnancy is also credited with other benefits:

  • Reduced labor and delivery time
  • Controlling nausea and other symptoms of morning sickness
  • Preventing a possible Cesarean section delivery
  • Maintaining a strong, healthy pregnancy
  • Reduced pain and discomfort in the pain, hips and pelvis

If you’re considering chiropractic care during your pregnancy, speak to your doctor first. Then schedule a first visit with Dr. Lynelle McSweeney in Reno. She’ll assess you to determine whether you’re a good candidate for chiropractic care before beginning any treatment, and she’s always happy to answer your questions.
