Cold and flu season is upon us, if you can believe it, and people are looking for ways to stay healthy as temperatures drop. One option that you may not have considered? A visit to the chiropractor! Here are three reasons to see the chiropractor this cold and flu season.
The Nervous & Immune Systems
To understand why chiropractic care has an impact on the immune system, it’s necessary to understand that both the nervous system and the immune systems are intrinsically linked. In fact, these hardwired systems are designed to work together to create optimal responses for the body to both adapt and heal appropriately. Chiropractic adjustments have been shown to boost these systems’ coordinated responses. And that can mean avoiding illness or recovering from it more quickly.
Ronald Pero, Ph.D., chief of cancer prevention research at New York’s Preventive Medicine Institute and professor of medicine at New York University, conducted a study to show the positive effect chiropractic care can have on the immune system and general health.
Dr. Pero measured the immune systems of people under chiropractic care in comparison to those in the general population, as well as those with cancer and other serious diseases.
In his initial three-year study of 107 individuals who had been under chiropractic care for five years or longer, the chiropractic patients were found to have a 200% greater immune competence than people who had not received chiropractic care, and 400% greater immune competence than people with cancer and other serious diseases. Notably, the immune system superiority of those under chiropractic care did not diminish with age.¹
Three Benefits of Chiropractic Care
- Improved energy – Your adjustment gives an immediate boost to the immune system – within 15 minutes – which improves the body’s energy and helps fight off infection.
- Better communication – Proper alignment improves communication from the brain through the nervous system to all organs and tissues.
- Test and target – Your chiropractor can test for individual organs that may be weak or compromised, which will impact the immune system as a whole.
