WHAT A CHIROPRACTOR WANTS YOU TO KNOW ABOUT CHIROPRACTIC

Dr. Lynelle McSweeney is a Reno chiropractor offering specialized care for the neck, back, hips, and other parts of the body. As you might imagine, she is asked about chiropractic frequently, from the many conditions she can treat to the differences between a nutritionist and a chiropractor. Here’s what this Reno chiropractor wants you know about chiropractic.

Chiropractors are Extensively Trained

Dr. McSweeney graduated with a degree in sports medicine before completing her training at the Palmer West Chiropractic College. She then completed a two-year preceptorship before starting her own practice. In addition to more than a decade of hands-on experience, Dr. McSweeney is committed to ongoing training. She completes over 30 hours of specialized nutrition studies per year, with an additional 25 hours of specialized chiropractic studies.

Chiropractors can Help Everyone

Adults and teens, children and infants – chiropractic care really can help anyone. There are many factors that can lead to problems in our spine health, from sedentary lifestyles and bad sleeping positions to poor posture, growth spurts, and sports injuries. A good chiropractor can help restore your spine to its optimal form, getting you out of pain and back to doing the things you love. You may also be surprised at some of the conditions a chiropractor can treat – things like bedwetting, migraines, and foot pain.

Chiropractors do More than Crack Your Back

If you think a chiropractor is someone who just cracks your back, we invite you to learn more. When you visit Dr. McSweeney for the first time, here’s what you can expect.

  • Introduction First visits with Dr. McSweeney usually last between 30 and 45 minutes, with the majority of that time spent in discussion. Dr. McSweeney wants to understand what brought you in, so she’ll ask about your symptoms and ask that you complete paperwork. This will give her a comprehensive overview of your activity level, lifestyle, nutritional, pharmacological and medical histories.
  • Physical assessment When she’s spent time listening to you, Dr. McSweeney will begin your appointment with a physical assessment. This helps her pinpoint areas of dysfunction and identify asymmetries and/or troublesome movement patterns. Dr. McSweeney may also perform orthopedic tests, a body read and a palpatory exam, all of which are usually quick and painless.
  • Treatment recommendations Following your physical assessment, Dr. McSweeney will offer recommendations for treatment. Your treatment will depend on several factors, and it may include a combination of therapies:
    • moist heat
    • myofacial release techniques
    • chiropractic adjustments
    • electrical stimulation or ultrasound
    • nutrition recommendations
    • and more
