QUESTIONS, DISCUSSION AND ASSESSMENTS
A clinical exam with Dr. McSweeney usually takes between 30 and 45 minutes. Before your visit, you’ll be asked to complete paperwork that gives Dr. McSweeney a thorough overview of your personal activity, lifestyle, nutritional, pharmacological and medical history. Dr. McSweeney will also ask specifically about the issue that brought you in, with questions about how and when the pain began, where it’s located, what it feels like, etc.
She’ll focus on these specific problem area(s) by taking you through a physical assessment. This helps Dr. McSweeney identify asymmetries or dysfunctional movement patterns. She’s often looking for clues in the form of range of motion, muscle tone and strength, and neurological integrity. Dr. McSweeney will also conduct traditional orthopedic tests, a body read and a palpatory exam so she can pinpoint areas of scar tissue/adhesion or joint restriction/imbalance. Other tests may include a posture analysis or direct manipulation of the affected area.
All of these assessments will help Dr. McSweeney determine whether you may benefit from chiropractic care. She’ll share your diagnosed condition, her suggestions for treatment, and, if applicable, the treatment length.
